Happy Mother's Day

First of all I apologize it has been 2 weeks since my last post. I think our frequency of posts will probably go down to once a month from now on, but we will try to take good photos so we can all share in the fun of Bo Bo.

Big events the past few weeks were a new haircut, a school carnival, and lots of trips to the pool. Ryan finished up his student teaching last week so now he handles both drop-off and pick-up for school and Bo gets picked up about an hour earlier than he was when we were both working. We also went to Bo's endocrinologist this past week and she said he is done with "intensive therapy" which means he's about as well controlled as a kid his age is going to be so we don't need to send in blood sugars as frequently and he doesn't need to see her for another three months.

I am having two more hand surgeries soon so I have been working at getting Bo to walk with me and hold my hand (instead of being carried everywhere). My surgeon gave me a lecture on how our bodies usually start out carrying an 8 lb baby and then we get stronger as they get heavier. So starting out at 40 lbs is a major toll on the joints. Honestly I have been having problems in my right middle finger since about this time last year but with the adoption approaching I couldn't do the surgery so I put it off. Right before we left for China my left middle finger started to trigger and it got worse very quickly. I am actually having that finger done first since it will have a speedier recovery and I should have full function of that hand before I get the other finger done two weeks later. Anyway, just another reason why the blog may suffer a little over the next month.

Bo seems to have turned the corner since my last post. No more mourning behaviors and he has really taken off on the English. He says a lot of "this one", "that way", "more/ no more", "OK", and similar articles and nouns. Tonight he was playing XBox with Ryan and when Ryan got them past a level he said "good job, Baba" as clear as day. We try not to make too much of a big deal out of new words when he uses them because I don't want him to be self-conscious. I usually just repeat what he said so he knows I understood him and then continue on. I asked his teacher and she said he still doesn't speak English at school so I think he is a bit afraid to use his new words outside the family but he's probably not that far away from that either.

So today was my first Mother's Day and it was pretty good. I got to sleep in until 9 and woke up to breakfast cooking in the oven. Ryan and Bo went to the supermarket last night and Bo picked out flowers for me: pink roses! He tries to get me to buy flowers all the time so I think he really enjoyed this. And he made me a gift at school last week, which he proceeded to open up in the car on the way home Friday afternoon :) It is a cute windwill bird-feeder which the kids helped assemble and paint taking multiple days to complete. It is proudly on display in our living room! If I can say anything about Bo it is that he really enjoys giving gifts.

Our summer plans are starting to shape up. We are going to PA for the 4th of July (and Ryan's Birthday, Bo's B-day, and Grandpa John's B-day). We haven't bought our plane tickets yet but we'll probably be up there from the 1st to the 8th. We might take another trip in early August right before Ryan starts teaching, but we haven't decided where yet. Bo really needs to meet his cousins but not sure if that will take us to Michigan or to a joint vacation somewhere else. It stinks to live a plane ride away from all of your family.
